Annual Lynchburg Peace Fair
(To see a Letter to the Editor regarding our 2014 events for the International Day of Peace, visit the News and Advance.) Each fall the Lynchburg Peace Education Center (LPEC) joins with The Peace Practice (TPP) and other community groups to host the Lynchburg Community Peace Fair as a city-wide celebration of peace. The event is held on or around September 21(to coincide with the annual International Day of Peace); the 2014 Fair was held on Sunday, September 21, at the Aviary in Miller Park. Details will be posted here as the date draws near--check back for the latest updates! The purpose of the Fair is two-fold: 1) educational, to provide information on a wide range of events, services, businesses and organizations, operating on a local to global level, that nurture habits of harmony and work for issues of peace and justice and 2) recreational, to provide an opportunity for community members of all ages to connect with playful, relaxing activities that relieve stress, encourage creativity, and celebrate peace to inspire and nurture the individual and collective spirit. Sessions might include recreational activities such as Laughter Yoga, crafts for kids, drum circle, stretching to de-stress, music, guided relaxation meditation; educational activities may involve tables for peace and justice organizations, video or audio recordings, and featured speakers. Local and regional organizations have the opportunity to circulate a petition, distribute literature, provide information on current long-standing and innovative peace efforts around the world, and/or promote peace-related products or services.
